Solstice and The Night Festival

The same reviewer who disliked Solstice for its scary ending has now added to that review, and has also disliked how the ending of The Night Festival connected to Solstice.

I would suggest only one interesting angle that this reader may not have considered. The ending of Night Festival is entirely consistent with the alternative interpretation that the heroine of Solstice really did have a breakdown due to her extraordinary transformation and might, just might, have been an unreliable narrator at the end.

I’m not saying that’s the case, not at all. But the ambiguity is there, much like the famous ghost story The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James.
