“This memoir often made me laugh, but occasionally was so real and painful that it also made me choke up. I have enjoyed many of Ms. Woods’ novels, but for me this is by far her best work. It is powerful, poignant, often humorous, always modest, never squeamish or coy, and consistently honest. My favorite scene describes her mother’s unexpected visit to the apartment she shares with her sister, where she discovers Diane en femme and with her boyfriend for the first time. The scene is totally real and possesses all the qualities I have just mentioned, and it is but one of many. Of course, I look forward to the continuation of the memoir. In fact, I wish an indy director would turn this volume into a movie like Next Stop Wonderland. It has the same quirky charm and emotional power. Ms. Woods memoir is a gift to us all.”
Ummm, wow. Thank you so much for sharing these thoughts on my little autobiographical book.
I’ve been behind in my writing this year as my day job has been overwhelming but I promise to chain myself to my writing desk and get back to my writing. With fans like these, how can I not?
